FAQ ON THE ACADEMY
ARRIVAL AND DEPARTURE QUESTIONS
HOW DO WE GET THERE?
Bus Driver instructions:
-
Make sure the bus parking pass is clearly displayed in the front windshield before entering State Fair Park.
-
Park at Gate 9; enter State Fair Park from the north, at the entrance off of NW 10th Street.
-
Follow the curve to the right and at the stop signs, look for parking attendants who will direct you to the entrance of the parking lot north of the barns.
-
Please, then, follow attendant instructions and signage to the unloading area.
HOW LONG DOES THE TRIP LAST?
The academy is set-up to allow groups to attend a variety of learning centers. Most groups find they need about 4 hours to arrive, be oriented, attend 3 learning centers, have lunch and load up to depart.
Although the academy officially ends at 2:30 p.m. each day, groups are welcome to stay later to attend additional fair exhibits. All items will need to be picked up from the lunch tent which our volunteers will vacate after 2:30 p.m.
PARKING QUESTIONS
WHERE DO WE PARK?
All registered academy buses and cars park for free and must park in the assigned parking lot (see Academy map). Free parking is in designated lots only. Additional vehicles, without advance parking passes, will need to follow the attendant instructions to the regular paid parking station and pay $5 for daily admission. This will still put group vehicles in the same parking lot as buses and vehicles WITH the advance, free parking pass.
HOW DO WE GET PARKING PASSES?
A specific number of free parking passes are issued based on registration.
Parking passes will be mailed to the school/group after we have confirmed the trip.
LEARNING CENTER QUESTIONS
WHAT ARE LEARNING CENTERS?
On specific days during the Oklahoma State Fair, several of the exhibits are transformed into special learning centers. These historical, educational and fun learning centers are created especially to provide various learning opportunities for the groups, while helping schools achieve P.A.S.S. Objectives.
See “Tools For Teachers” For More Details.
CANCELLATION QUESTIONS
WHAT IF WE HAVE TO CANCEL?
If for some reason a reservation must be cancelled, please notify the Academy offices at 405.948.6731 know immediately.
CAN I RESCHEDULE IF I HAVE TO CANCEL?
If the cancellation occurs before September 1, we will try and reschedule the group for another time; however, due to the popularity of the program space is extremely limited.
WHAT IF IT RAINS/ BAD WEATHER?
The Academy will take place, regardless of rainy weather; however, feel free to give us a call at 405.948.6731 to double check before leaving if there is a threat of severe weather.
PROGRAM QUESTIONS
DO WE NEED TICKETS?
The only gate admission tickets that you will need are for any additional parents/chaperones that come with you.
CAN WE BRING OUTSIDE FOOD AND DRINK?
Groups are allowed to bring sack lunches, and it is highly recommended bringing bottled water for the students. Any drinks or drink containers must be in your coolers or boxes when you arrive. As a general rule, fairgoers may not bring food or drinks into the Fair. Therefore, make sure all food and drinks are inside coolers/boxes and that the containers are clearly marked for the group.
